More than a label: your result shows where to grow

You get four dimension scores, your dominant faculty, one of 24 ranked profiles and an index of how strongly your first dimension leads. Your fourth-ranked dimension, the latent one, is your main growth area; the premium report turns it into a daily practice.

Its accuracy is currently being studied in a staged research program, and every stage is published. It describes how you engage with the world; it is not a diagnosis.

Built to be a standard, not a product

One shared language for how people think, feel and act, from coaching rooms to classrooms to teams.

Open

Free for anyone, with scoring published step by step so any result can be checked.

Portable

Every result exports to one file format that any licensed practitioner can import.

Certified

Practitioners train, pass a 60-question exam and hold a certificate anyone can verify.

Researched

Grounded in three research fields, with its accuracy under active study and every stage published.

How the ICA standard works

Three steps, about 15 minutes

  1. Answer 40 situations. Choose what you would actually do, not what you think you should do.
  2. See your result at once. Four scores, your dominant faculty and one of 24 profiles, scored in your browser.
  3. Go deeper if you want to. The premium report ($48) adds your growth practice, stress pattern and a 30-day plan.

Thinking. Feeling. Willing.

Three faculties, measured through four dimensions.

Thinking

Perceive, understand, reason

Measured through two modes: Integrative Synthesis (seeing wholes) and Systematic Analysis (understanding parts).

Feeling

Connect, attune, empathize

Measured through Social Attunement: noticing how others feel and keeping connection.

Willing

Act, engage, make it real

Measured through Environmental Engagement: acting on what is in front of you, in real time.

Grounded in three fields of research

The three faculty names come from Rudolf Steiner, and the wider idea that the mind knows, feels and strives runs through the history of psychology as the "trilogy of mind". The four-dimension structure is our own model.

Each of the four dimensions has a parallel in today's research. In analytical psychology, they line up with Jung's four functions: intuition, thinking, feeling and sensation. In behavioral science, the two Thinking dimensions mirror the distinction between intuitive and deliberate thinking. In neuroscience, they parallel four large-scale brain networks: default mode, executive control, mentalizing and sensorimotor.

Its accuracy is currently being studied in three stages, with findings published as each one completes.

Questions

What is the ICA?

The ICA is a free 40-item behavioral-preference assessment from ICAPsychometrics. Each item describes a situation and offers four responses; you choose what you would actually do. Your choices produce scores on four dimensions (Integrative Synthesis, Systematic Analysis, Social Attunement and Environmental Engagement), which group into three faculties: Thinking, Feeling and Willing. The result is one of 24 ranked profiles.

How long does it take?

About 15 minutes for most people: 40 items, each with four options.

Where are my answers stored?

In your browser. The online test scores your answers on your device and keeps your history in your browser's local storage. Nothing you answer is sent to us.

Is the ICA scientifically validated?

Its validity and accuracy are currently being studied in a staged research program. The model draws on established parallels in analytical psychology, behavioral science and neuroscience, and findings are published on the research page as each stage completes.

Is the ICA related to the "Integrated Cognitive Assessment" dementia test?

No. A different organization, Cognetivity Neurosciences, sells a medical screening test for cognitive impairment under the same name, Integrated Cognitive Assessment (ICA) (overview). ICAPsychometrics is not connected to it. The ICA does not measure memory, attention or any cognitive ability, and it cannot screen for dementia. If you are worried about memory or thinking, speak to a doctor.
